Lots of Fresh Steelhead in Erie County Streams

Today I headed out to the local streams to see how many fish were making their move to spawn. The local streams now have quite a few fresh steelhead and some brown trout in them. The problem today, as seen in my video, is that the streams are very low and extremely clear. This makes fishing very tough as the fish are easy to spook. We still need some heavy rains to get the water levels up because fish are much easier to catch in cloudier water.I talked to a fisherman that told me that size 16 black nymphs are killing the steelhead. Fly fisherman always seem to do better in low water conditions because they can present their bait without causing splashing which really spooks the fish. Anyway, the steelhead numbers are increasing in the streams which is a good sign. If you watch my video closely you will see steelhead and maybe even a big brown bolting around in the water. For some reason, my 30 second video came out at a very fast pace and only 3 seconds.  I will do better next time.  Good luck fishing!
